Lumberjack Pro Frood 50% Ortho Kit
Redesigned by 42. Keebs based on the original design by Paul James a.k.a peej (GitHub repository). The designer receives a portion of the proceeds from every sale.
- Preonic-like 12×5 ortholinear layout with a 3u gap in the middle for the through-hole diodes and the controller
- Fits into standard tray-mount 60% cases like Tofu, Kbdfans 5° or Bakeneko
- Supports full grid and 2x 2u layouts
- Designed for Cherry MX-compatible switches only (doesn’t support Kailh Choc switches)
- Hotswap using Kailh MX hotswap sockets
- Uses the powerful Frood or nice!nano controllers instead of an old-school discrete ATmega MCU
- Supports wireless operation when used with the nice!nano (see gotcha below)
- Adds an extra switch in the centre (in the ZXC row) with support for and optional EC11 rotary encoder
- Adds 3x RGB LED indicators in the centre below the controller
- Split FR4 switch plate included
- USB-C only (now the same as the original Lumberjack)
- Easy to solder, uses only through-hole components
- The only slightly tricky part to solder is the USB-C connector. If you feel a bit unsure, I can solder it for you for a small extra
- Optional switch plate foam available
- Optional acrylic bottom plate and foam available for a build without a case
- Lead-free tinned finish, black/white solder mask
Please see our build guide.
Please note, when used with the nice!nano, the board can be powered either via the USB-C port. ⚠️ However, if a battery is installed and connected to the B+/B- pins of the JST connector, the USB-C cannot be used ⚠️ (as it would connect 5 V directly to the battery without any charging circuitry 💥). The battery can only be charged via the USB-C socket on the nice!nano itself (perhaps via a USB-C extension cable). This is unfortunately a limitation of the nice!nano.
