Controller Sockets/Pins/Headers

Sockets and pins to make Pro Micro/nice!nano, Frood and similar controllers removable

Very useful when fitting batteries underneath the controllers

tl;dr: Which sockets should I choose?

• If you want to fit a thin battery underneath the controller, get at least the medium profile sockets and pins if the battery is around 3 mm thick (even then, the battery will usually not fit under the USB-C area and will need to be shifted down a bit)
• For thicker batteries, get the high profile sockets (no need for pins – they come included with the controllers)
• If you’re not putting a battery underneath the controller, it’s just a matter of taste and budget. Low profile sockets might look best, but the medium profile sockets are quite similar, just a bit higher and much cheaper. High profile sockets don’t even need any extra pins
• If you have some spare through-hole electronic components lying around (like diodes or resistors), you can snip parts of their legs and use those for the pins. LED legs are usually too thick
• High profile sockets use the standard thick square header pins included with the controllers

Mill Max 315 low-profile sockets

• Precision single-row (SIP) sockets
• Just 2.8 mm tall – battery will usually not fit underneath the controller without a gap
• Accept pins 0.040-0.056 mm in diameter (if you want to save, diode leg cutoffs will work just fine)
• Pack contains 2x 12-pin sockets or 2x 12-pin sockets + 1x 5-pin socket (for Frood)

Medium-profile sockets

• Single-row (SIP) sockets
• 4.55 mm tall – thin batteries will fit underneath the controller when installed in the usual (upside down) orientation
• Accept pins 0.040-0.056 mm in diameter (if you want to save, diode leg cutoffs will work just fine)
• Pack contains 2x 12-pin sockets

High-profile sockets

• 5.7 mm tall – most typical batteries will fit easily underneath the controller
• Accept standard thick square header pins supplied with the controllers
• Pack contains 2x 12-pin sockets

• Precision gold plated pins
• Length: 6.3 mm
• Diameter: 0.052 mm
• Pack contains 25 or 30 pins

Standard square header pins:

• Total length: 11.65 mm (3.1 mm + spacer + 6.1 mm)
• Spacer height: 2.45 mm (can be removed)
• Pack contains 2x 12-pin strips or 2x 12-pin + 1×5-pin strips
